Our V-Day

Holidays like birthday's and Valentines Day aren't really spelled out around our house about what is required, who's year it is to plan it, or whether we are buying gifts or not.  Do we go all out and splurge or just do some simple homemade cards or gifts?  I usually just try and weigh McKay's mood around that time of year and try my best to guess what he is going to do and then try and match it.  This year McKay is all about our new budget that we set so I figured that it was going to be a low key holiday (no extravagant gifts or dates).  Luckily for me I guessed right and we had a nice simple holiday and ate some yummy food.  Last year I started a new tradition of eating a *fancy* home cooked RED themed dinner with the whole family.  So we did that again this year.  Although I didn't make any red Jello because it didn't really fit into our new eating guidelines.  We had Manicotti for our dinner.  Adalyn and McKay almost ate the whole pan themselves and McKay declared that it was his favorite meal (and I don't think he was kidding).  For dessert we had homemade icecream sandwiches (that was my favorite part).  Adalyn only ate the sprinkles because she doesn't like icecream.  Crazy Girl.

As gifts this year I gave McKay some balloons with things that I love about him attached to their strings.  He thought it was a very original idea and loved all of the things that I wrote (tried to be creative with them), but little did he know that the idea is ALL over Pinterest and I know of AT LEAST two other friends that did the same thing for their husband.  But the things that I love about him were original and that is what counts right?  Right?  Maybe next year I will be more creative...

McKay gave me kisses (as in the chocolate kind, ok... and maybe some of the other kind too :).  He started on February 1st and gave me a chocolate kiss each night before we went to bed.  Then on the morning of Valentines day I woke up to kisses ALL over the house.  I found them in the shower, by the laundry soup, in the diaper drawer, in the fridge, on the pictures in our house, and a REALLY big one under his pillow.  He put them in lots of different places, but mostly up where Adalyn couldn't reach them (but even with his high hiding places she has still become proficient in unwrapping them and eating them.  She is still finding ones that we missed and helping herself to them.  Atleast she throws the wrappers away...)  When he came home from work that night he asked if I had found them all and told me that each time I found one it was a little thank you from him for all of the many things that I do around the house for him and our kids.  Very sweet, and I did have a lot of fun finding them all day.  It made the little chores a bit more enjoyable.

Adalyn also gave daddy a gift... we painted with sweetened condensed milk dyed red and then I mounted in on card stock.  Not too exciting, but I wasn't going to do anything more crazy than that with a 18 month old.

It ended up being a fun day!  I really love Valentines Day, it is nice to have something to look forward to during the cold winter months even if we don't get to go out on a date or anything.  Now I need to start thinking about St. Patrick's Day.

Have a great night!  I am going to go eat some birthday cake now.  Happy Birthday to me! (yes I chose to blog on my birthday because I love it THAT much)  hehe
