We started to festivities on Saturday with a date night. It was our 2nd one since having Jensen and McKay's Aunt and Uncle were kind enough to watch the kids so that we could have some kid free time. :) For Christmas I gave McKay 12 date ideas for our once a month date night. I specifically planned Feb to do something I wanted to do since it was my birthday after all (don't worry, next month we are going rock climbing so McKay will get his fun soon enough). Our date consisted of going out to eat, but ONLY ordering appetizers and dessert. I had heard of people doing this before for various reasons such as, it costs less, you get to actually enjoy the dessert because you aren't so full from the meal, and it is fun to eat junk food sometimes. :) So we thought that we would try it out. We went to Applebees and my favorite part was the oreo shake at the end. mmm...
After dinner we went shopping (I told you this was a date planned just for me) and I got some new running shoes that I am head over heals in love with! We also ended up getting McKay's birthday present too since it was buy one get one 1/2 off at the shoe store and McKay knew his shoes were wearing out too. He won't "open" his gift until his birthday in June so hopefully he will forget what we got him. :) I am excited to go running this summer since I missed most of last summer because I was pregnant.
Unfortunately because of McKay's work schedule and the fact that I now have two kids I will probably only be running on the weekends and a couple nights a week, but I am still excited and hope to work up to some higher miles...possibly double digits!? Haven't seen those in a few years. We were going to buy a double jogging stroller this summer (so that I could train more consistently during the day) and had already started saving for it when I decided to change my plan a little bit. So I won't be running any big races or in any events this summer, but hopefully we will still have some fun.
Here I am showing off my new shoes...
On my actual birthday McKay made a yummy breakfast casserole and even tried to put candles in it. But the candles melted (don't put wax candles in a hot cake... oops). Then we went to church, and half way through primary they brought Adalyn to me from nursery because she had a fever. :( So the poor girl spent the rest of the day not feeling well and kind of fussy. Here she is loving on her favorite blanket and eating her favorite food (fruit on homemade bread)... Yeah, she gets what she wants when she is sick.
Eventually she went to bed early and McKay made me a Real birthday cake (not just the breakfast kind). He worked very hard to find a special cake that didn't break any of my new "rules" (although he didn't have to because I break my rules all the time). He made a whole wheat chocolate cake with Agave nectar (instead of white sugar). Also the frosting was real whipped cream. I was pretty impressed with how it turned out and it actually tasted really good too! So thanks McKay for making my birthday special!
So in these next pictures the cake may not look that tasty but that is just because McKay frosted it himself and he may not be one to always pay attention to detail so some of the cake didn't even get covered, but it still tasted great. :)
It ended up being a great 23rd birthday with my sweet little family, sick little girl and all. I feel very special because I am sure their aren't many people out there that get to spend their 23rd birthday with their TWO kids and sweet husband, I definitely feel blessed.
Thank you to my mom and dad and Kevin and Liz for their sweet birthday cards. They always make me feel so loved :) Also to everyone who texted and emailed birthday wishes.
Have a great day!
