2014 Christmas Season

This time of year is full of so many fun traditions and memories for everyone's families.  McKay and I both have some sweet memories from our childhood of this time of year and are hoping to give our children some sweet memories too (well at least I do, and McKay mostly just puts up with my ideas for "fun family time").

None of these "things" that we have done this year were super planned out, they all just happened, except for the new book on December 1st.  I love Christmas books so this is a tradition that I started a couple years ago to help us collect the Christmas books I love.

The Monday before Thanksgiving we set up our tree and decorations.  We don't have a lot of decorations so we did it all in about an hour and listened to Christmas music the whole time.

Oh and princess belle made her appearance at our decorating party.  Just like she has everyday since Halloween.  Best $16 ever spent.  :)

For FHE one week we went to a beautiful Christmas concert at the Idaho Falls temple visitors center.  It was a few men from our ward and stake performing.  One of the guys is McKay's closest friend here in Idaho.  We took our picture by the temple after.  In a few months they are going to close the Idaho Falls temple for 16 months for a remodel.  As a nursing mother I am sad that I will not get to go to the temple very often during that time.  We will probably be in the Twin Falls temple district.  Twin Falls is about 2 hrs. away... so getting there, going thru a session, and then coming home would be an all day task.  Most likely we will probably just start going to the temple each time we go to Salt Lake instead.  We have babysitters there. :)

December 1st is our Christmas kickoff celebration, but this year we did it a few days late since we were out of town on the 1st.  We let the kids open up our new Christmas book and then we read it and had hot chocolate.  The kids wanted to eat their hot chocolate with a spoon.  They were sitting there slurping it for about an hour until we finally gave them each a straw to finish it off so they could go to bed.

no pictures from our Christmas kick off

On several occasions the kids and McKay have gone outside to play in the snow.  McKay mostly just shovels all the driveways in our circle while the kids wander around exploring the snow.  But they have built a snowman or two.

They both have loved playing in the snow this year and ask several times a day to go outside in it.  Hopefully it keeps snowing often this winter, because Santa may be bringing them their own little shovels this Christmas so that they can "help" daddy shovel the neighbors driveways.  :)

One night we built a pre-made gingerbread house.  Although, I was clumsy when I opened the package and broke one of the walls to the house before we had even gotten started.  So in the end our house was a 3 sided house held together by daddy until the icing hardened.  I have a new appreciation for those fancy gingerbread houses that you see at the festival of trees.

We have gone to a few Christmas parties.  Our ward Christmas party along with a children's party for McKay's work at Shelley High school.  Santa was at both parties and both time the kids got really excited to see him... until they actually saw him.  When they saw him they would run in the opposite direction or cling to my leg.  Don't think we are quite ready for Santa at the mall.

All dressed up for the ward party

Family picture with santa at McKay's work party.  Adalyn asked Santa for an Elsa dress.

And last of all we are still loving our Christmas jammies.  Adalyn has inherited my obsession with having the kids match.  Nothing makes her happier then dressing her and Jensen in matching jammies.  Sometimes they get ready for bed at 4:00 pm, or 10 am.  lol

Oh what fun this Christmas season has been!  And I would be lying if I didn't say busy, but wrapping presents and going to parties is my kind of busy!  Life is good!
