As you all saw in the preview before the quilt that my sweet mom made was the inspiration for our little girl's room. If you don't remember or are new to our blog here it is again...
The quilt has a lot of colors on it and patterns so I choose to focus on three for the rest of the decorating red, green, and yellow. These are some bright fun colors and finding the perfect blend of all of them (meaning not too much of one color) was probably the most difficult challenge for me. Wait, to be honest the whole room was pretty much a challenge for me, but I think that is because I left some of the harder details for the last minute and my brain DOES NOT WORK. Thanks McKay for helping me through because I would just sit and stare some days with no inspiration coming to me.
So here is a run down of how everything came together, if you don't want to hear the whole story feel free to skip down to the pictures. :) When we found out that we were pregnant we knew that we didn't want to try and afford everything brand new. So I choose the most important thing to me, the carseat, and that is the only peice of baby equipment that we bought new. The crib we got from my aunt and uncle, which I love it and was so excited when they were willing to sell it to us. Since it was white we decided that that was the color we would go with for all of the nursery furniture. So here is the final product of the crib.
the crib skirt is yellow gigham which usually in my mind is a dated look but I think it is very cute in this case and goes with the crib well. We tried bumper pads but they didn't fit on our crib very well and I was worried about how loose they were so we just went without, hopefully that will be ok!
Once we found out that we would be moving to Idaho we quickly started looking on KSL for the rest of the furniture. Tragically they don't have KSL classifieds in Idaho and seriously you can get amazing stuff on there. LOVE IT! So that is where we bought our amazingly comfortable glider (go in there a couple times a day to just sit in it) and changing table. The changing table was a light wood color so McKay had to sand and paint it white. It is SO sturdy and works as the dresser (tons of storage) and changing table. Here are the finished products for both the changing table and the dresser.
Then when we realized that we were going to be living in a two bedroom apartment instead of a three bedroom we needed the baby room to double as a guest room. So we luckily were able to get a bed from McKay's mom for free and even though in is now a pretty tight squeeze in her room it is nice to have a place for guests when they come. (and don't worry if you come to visit you wont have to sleep with the baby in the same room) And for the bed I got the bedspread from Target when it was on sale. The green matches perfectly.
So after we got the furniture all we had left was the walls (hence the hardest part left for last). I wish that we could have painted the walls because color would have added SO much and would have looked amazing with the white furniture, but alas we are renting and painting was NOT an option. So I just tried to add as much color to the walls with decorations. For the wall above her crib I could not come up with anything that I felt comfortable having above her head. I was terrified that she might pull on it or it might fall on her. So I left that wall blank for safety reasons. On the back wall I got this vinal saying,Then we added picture frames around it that we will put pictures in of her once she gets here :) Here is the view of the room from the door way you can see the saying and frames at the back. I know kind of tacky without pictures in the frames yet...aFor the last wall above the bed we bought some shelves at a garage sale and I had McKay paint them yellow. Deciding what to put on them took me FOREVER. I think I like how they turned out, but who knows they might change one of these days. The first one I decorated with red flowers and a cute yellow butterfly. Above it I put a picture of the temple (that was a must on McKay's list for the bedroom). On the second shelf I put scrapbook paper over white letters to spell her name. The name that we are 99.9% sure about (McKay started calling her this already and hence everyone else has too) is Adalyn Pace (Addie for short). So since we are pretty set on it I felt ok about making it permanent on her wall.Well that is it. I am so glad that we got it all done and I think it turned out pretty cute for my first nursery (so don't pop my bubble if you don't agree) Have a great day!
The whole room is adorable! You guys did a great job and I'm so excited for your little one.
ReplyDeleteI give it two enthusiastic thumbs up! :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks super cute Kajsa! And, don't worry, gingham is actually very "in" these days :). -kaylene
ReplyDeleteLove the colors!!!! And can I say how jealous I am. I have three boys and I've never had an official baby room to decorate. We move too often and they grow up way too fast. So YES I'm very jealous!
