You see I had this belief that I was going to hate taking art. I can only draw stick figures so I assumed I would be terrible at all art. A whole year of 3 art classes sounded hard and I really wanted to have an easier senior year (I don't know why... oh wait isn't that what every senior is after).
But then a magical thing happened and I discovered that I actually liked art. No I wasn't amazing at it, but it was fun and kind of soothing to my soul. My teacher was awesome and let us listen to our ipods while we drew. Yeah those classes ended up being so relaxing as we worked on projects at our own pace and listened to music. I even saved a few pieces that I did and still have them today. No they aren't that great but I love that I did them. I take the same philosophy with my house décor. No it isn't perfect or magazine worthy but I love it because I created it.
Fast forward to a few months ago and I was trying to find something to do on Adalyn's wall. In the deciding process I came across this picture. I loved the flowers on the wall. I assume they are vinyl stickers, but I am not really sure... It was perfect because it filled the whole wall, and still gave some visual interest to the room.
Of course I would have loved to have bought a vinyl sticker to throw up on her wall but I didn't really think I would have found one it the red that I was going for. So then I got this crazy idea... I could paint them myself. All I needed was a small can of paint and ta da! A whole wall decorated for less than $15. So that is what I did. Adalyn hated that she kept getting locked out of her room, but I really did not want her watching me paint on the walls because I knew she would probably try and copy me the first chance she got.
So one night I pulled the picture up on our computer and started free hand drawing the flowers on the wall. The drawing process took less than an hour and then I was ready to paint. I choose to paint with a foam brush because that was all we had. It took a while to get used to it, but in the end it worked great for only being $.60. The actual painting process took a few days and for a while things looked like I had smeared blood on the wall. But the end result is so cool if I do say so myself.
So here it is! I love it better in person, but isn't that how it always goes?
So hard to take a picture of a whole wall all at once. The wall color is an Aqua blue and the red flowers are California Poppy by Behr. Yes it is bright, but it is a kids room so I thought that it was aloud.
PS. This is what the opposite wall looks like right now to give you a better idea of what her room looks like now.
Someday if we ever have another girl Adalyn's big girl bed will go in front of the flowers that I painted. I think it will work out well incase there is ever an earthquake we don't have to worry about things falling on her head.
This was a relaxing project for me and I am so grateful to McKay for watching the kids while I worked on it.
Well that is all! Have a great day!
Love it! You did a great job!

ReplyDeleteYou are SO daring! I'm not sure I would ever have the confidence or the courage to start painting big red flowers on a wall, but it turned out SO cute! You should be proud! :)
