The Birth Story

August 10th was my original due date and as that day approached it was clear that our little girl was not going to come out on her own by then, but she was certainly still getting bigger. So we decided that it would be best to go ahead and induce me. I went in on Tuesday August 9th around 8pm so that over night they could give me medicine to help dialate my cervix. So we just hung out over night waiting until the medicine had run its corse. That was the most uncomfortable night I had had in a while and the sleeping pill hardly did anything to help me sleep. I was probably just too nervous.

The next morning around nine they checked my cervix and come to find out the medicine had not really helped at all so they started me on pitocin around 10. And it didn't take very much for my contractions to start coming fast and hard...but I still wasn't dilating very fast so I couldn't get an epidural yet. I had a few hours of what I thought were painful contractions, mostly because I only had a minute between each one. Mentally at this point I was tired and knew that I still had many many hours of this. I was crying and very stressed out, I was amazed at anyone who had had more than one child because WHO in their right mind would go through this more than once? I was also feeling very pathetic thanks to the nurse who reminded me as I was crying that the contractions would only be getting worse. Finally around 2:30 I was dilated enough to be able to have the epidual, I was SO excited and my fear of needles vanished completely. Finally I was out of pain and could relax before the real labor started. So we just hung out, watched my contractions on the screen and waited for me to dilate. Around 10:00 pm I was completely dilated, we waited one more hour for her to move down a little more and then I started pushing.

I pushed for about 50 minutes and then at 11:55 pm she was born. :) Her first cry was more of just a wimper, it was so cute. It was at that moment that reality hit, I just gave birth to an ACTUAL baby. :) (I don't know what I expected to come out?) It was a perfect experience and I was on cloud nine. She was a lot bigger than I thought she would be and so I am SO glad that we decided to deliver that day. After showing her off and holding her for a few hours we got clean up and tried to grab a few hours of sleep.

Recovery is going great thanks to my wonderful mom who helped us with EVERYTHING for the first week. Adalyn has been perfect this week and we hope that she continues to stay that way, but we love her SO much that we will take her anyway that she comes. Here are a few pictures of our angel right after she was born...

Our new family, so excited for this next chapter in our lives. I know it is going to be a good one :)
